Choosing Sunglasses For Safest UV Protection

Stylish woman in sunglasses
© Photographer: Nejron | Agency: Dreamstime.com

The sun is the earth’s primary source of Ultraviolet radiation (UV), which is divided into at least three different categories based on wavelength:

UVA – 320-400 nm are only slightly affected by ozone levels.
Most UVA radiation is able to reach the earth’s surface and can contribute to tanning, skin aging, eye damage, and immune suppression. UV 400 Protection lenses are engineered to block 100% of all harmful blue light up to 400 nanometers

UVB – 280-320 nm are strongly affected by ozone levels.
Decreases in stratospheric ozone mean that more UVB radiation can reach the earth’s surface, causing sunburns, snow blindness, immune suppression, and a variety of skin problems including skin cancer and premature aging.

UVC – 100-280 nm are very strongly affected by ozone levels
The levels of UVC radiation reaching the earth’s surface are relatively small.

Solar UV radiation levels are highest during the middle of the day, and in total, almost half the daytime total UV radiation is received during the few hours around noon.

Exposure to small amounts of UV radiation over a period of many years may increase the chance of developing a cataract, and could cause irreversible damage to the retina.

It is always strongly recommended to wear quality sunglasses that offer protection to UV400 level, which will block out 99 – 100% of both UV-A and UV-B radiation and screen out 75 – 90% of visible light.

Why Too Much Makeup is Not Beautiful

Girls smarten up
© Photographer: Fanny71 | Agency: Dreamstime.com

Makeup is that it is meant to highlight and enhance your beauty – not to cover it up. So, do not apply coats of foundations or you will scare off more people than attract. After makeup always see if the shade of your face and your neck are different or not, if there is a difference tone down your makeup accordingly. Choosing the right makeup and applying it with the right degree of moderation is the key to look good.

Similar eyeliner is meant to define your eyes and not frame it. It will make your eyes look smaller and less beautiful than they really are.

Wondering Who Invented Lipstick!

Kisses
© Photographer: Yana28 | Agency: Dreamstime.com

Lipstick has evolved over a period of years, it is hard to give one person total credit for the invention.

In as early as 2500 BC it is noted that women would use crushed red stones to color their lips. Cleopatra used crushed beetles and ants to paint her lips. To add glimmer and shine to the lips, fish scales were added to the lip color.

During World War II became a household item for most women. Hazel Bishop a chemist, in 1949 perfected the lipstick we now use today. In the 1940′s she, experimented in her mother’s kitchen, finally inventing a stick of lip color that proved to be long lasting on the lips.

Some Basic Hair Care Tips

Does having good hair always mean going to the salon? The answer in no. With basic hair products such as good shampoos and conditioners there’s already so much that you can do.

Try not to use shampoo everyday as over washing can also damage the hair. Shampoo should be diluted with water applied on the scalp area for cleansing, while conditioner should be used on the tips and strands of the hair to give it a shine.

After washing, dry your hair with a towel. But as you squeeze off water from your hair, try not to rub your hair against each other or twisting your hair inside the towel as this may cause your hair to tangle and break.

Brush your hair every once in a while with a wide-tooth comb to keep it from tangling. You can also use your fingers to do this, starting always from the tips of your hair. And lastly, keep hair accessories such as headband, pins, or ponytails handy to help hold your hair when needed, or simply to add style.

Three Vital Summer Essentials

Sexy summer girl on vacation
© Photographer: Lordalea | Agency: Dreamstime.com

Everyone is so excited to go at the beach and play under the sun. Here are some summer essentials to carry with while we enjoy under the tropical heat.

Hat – Shield your head before the sun can give you a possible sunbeam hit. So when you cannot stay away completely from the sun, make sure to always have this with you for some cooling fix.

Facial Spray – Give your skin a boost of moisture and help you stay refreshed all day long. It is best recommended to habitually spritz on some cool water on our face such as evain water spray or pukka rose water.

Sunscreen – After a long exposure under the sun, sunburn or tan is produced in our body. This is the inflammation of our skin caused from the ultra violet radiation. Aside from dehydrating our body, it leads to some scary wrinkles. That is why it is advisable to wear some sunscreen 30 minutes prior to sun exposure to be able to shield us from the striking sun beams.

Chemical Makeup destroys your Beauty in Long Run

Makeup
© Photographer: Wildcat123 | Agency: Dreamstime.com

The first reason people perceive someone as beautiful is obviously due to natural beauty resulting from good features.

Many actresses and models have pretty faces, but they often spoil them with the excessive use of chemical cosmetic products. This is because chemical cosmetic products contain lots of chemicals that, even though make you look attractive, in the long term tend to destroy the freshness and health of your skin. If you look at an actress or model without her daily dose of cosmetic products, you would barely recognize her.

Most of us only put on makeup on special occasions once or twice a week, or maybe a month, and this does not damage our skin as compared to those who wear makeup everyday. So wear makeup “sometimes” or when “absolutely necessary”.

Many brands now make herbal based makeup that is all natural. Because herbal products contain natural ingredients, they are mild and beautify your skin.

One of the ways to keep the hair out of the face while you are doing something is to braid it.

Braiding also helps keep the hair clean. Thus, you don’t need to wash them frequently leading to less exposure to harmful chemicals such as shampoos, gels.

Do you know that it can also prevent split ends? Thus, if your hair is prone to split ends, braid it to end your hair problems.

Home Remedies to Get Lighter Skin

There are certain home remedies that can give you a healthy and fair complexion but you need to follow these in perfect order to see a difference in skin color within days.

But the first thing to follow is spending as less time possible in direct sunlight. Among different beauty secret ingredient, lemon has been used as one of the best ingredient to lighten skin color. Lemon contains vitamin c and is also considered as a natural antioxidant. Mixture of lemon juice and honey in equal parts applied regularly gives best results.

Another lemon recipe – Make a mixture of lemon juice, sugar. Applying this grainy scrub regularly, removes the tan color giving you a fairer complexion.

Rub potato slices on your skin and wash after 15 minutes. This is a natural bleach and good for dry skin.

Tomato juice mixed with some oatmeal or clay is a great clarifying mask.

Other natural bleach that improves complexion is a mixture of honey, pinch of turmeric and cucumber juice.

You can apply a paste of gram flour, pinch of tumeric and milk to your face, neck and body. After it dries up, scrub it out gently. With regular use it reduces the body hair growth and also lightens your skin.

Milk powder, some honey and water lightens up the skin.

Yogurt is natural bleach that can make your skin very soft and fair. You can replace yoghurt with milk in the above face pack recipe.

Massage your face daily at night with some almond oil and honey mixture and wash it with cold water after few minutes. Do this on a regular basis to get an extra glow in your skin.

© Photographer: Catsi | Agency: Dreamstime.com

Lemon juice and brown sugar, are good for your skin, and will leave it feeling super soft.

Simply take a cotton pad and moistion it with some lemon juice, then sprinkle some brown sugar on the pad. Rub it all over your face and neck for about a minute or two.

Once you’re finished rubbing it, rinse your face. It leaves your skin soft and refreshed with a radiant complexion. I try to do this about 3 times a week.

The lemon juice contains both an AHA and a BHA while the brown sugar contains Glycolic acid. These are all mild peeling agents.

Benefits of Face Mask application

Face Masks
© Photographer: Bvdc | Agency: Dreamstime.com

Facial masks include both deep cleaning and moisturizing ingredients within them. This allows the pores in the face to be cleansed completely of the trapped dirt. Masks also help slough off dead skin. This brings younger, healthier cells to the skin’s surface and gives you a tighter skin and a more glowing complexion.

In spas, these masks are applied with special soothing and relaxing motions with a massage. At home you can give your own face a soft massage just prior to applying the face mask so that is exceptionally soothing. All masks should be applied to a freshly washed face. This opens the pores and maximizes the effectiveness of the treatment.

Apply the mask in a circular motion making it relaxing and stimulating at the same time. Lie down and rest. Finally, when it is time to rinse the mask, do so in cold water. This will help close the pores, tone your skin.

Make your own facial masks from normal household products like bananas, avocados, honey, butter, clays, essential oils, fruit purees, tomatoes, rose petals, oatmeal, yogurt, milk.

Which natural beauty brand should you buy?

Not all natural skincare brands are equal. A jar of aloe vera cream from one brand may contain 1% aloe vera while a tube of aloe vera gel form another brand may contain 99.7% aloe vera. Both are labelled aloe vera products since they do contain aloe vera. Look at the list of the ingredients. See if they contain any fillers and thickening agents.

Mineral Makeup – Why Use Mineral Cosmetics?

Makeup and Brush
© Photographer: Hlphoto | Agency: Dreamstime.com

Mineral makeup is composed of minerals that are extracted from the earth. They are first pulverized into a powered form and then sterilized so they are safe to use.

The makeup is a combination of zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and micronized minerals. Unlike many liquid makeup types, mineral makeup contains no talc, perfumes or dyes. There are no chemicals (which is a common cause of irritation and inflammation in the skin). Mineral makeup also contains natural iron such as iron oxides.
